The right strap for your Series 8 45mm
The larger 45mm case on your smartwatch offers a fantastic screen experience, but the extra surface area and weight require the right fit around your wrist. Choosing the right watch strap isn’t just about colour, but about maximising both the watch’s functionality and your own comfort from morning to night.
Materials and fit
Your smartwatch is packed with advanced health features such as temperature reading and heart rate monitoring. For these sensors to deliver accurate data, a precise fit is required where the watch lies against the skin without digging in or sitting too loosely.
- If you wear the watch at night for sleep tracking, a soft and elastic nylon strap is the optimal choice. It moulds seamlessly to your wrist, minimises pressure points during the night and allows your skin to breathe.
- If you lead an active lifestyle where the larger 45mm case risks slipping around when you move, a high-quality silicone strap provides the stability and grip needed to ensure uninterrupted sensor contact and skin comfort.
Activity and lifestyle
Being able to quickly change your strap makes your smartwatch your most versatile accessory. Choose the material to suit your daily routine.
- If your schedule is dominated by intense workouts or swimming, then you should choose a water- and sweat-resistant sports strap made of durable rubber. They dry in a flash, don’t absorb moisture or odours, and are incredibly easy to keep clean.
- If you’re heading straight from the gym to the office or an important meeting, you can instantly upgrade your watch’s look with a classic leather strap or a stylish metal link. You retain the benefits of the technology whilst instantly achieving a sophisticated, smart premium feel.
Frequently asked questions about watch straps for the 45mm
Will my old watch straps fit the Series 8 45mm?
Yes, the attachment is fully backwards compatible. Straps previously used with the older 42mm and 44mm cases fit perfectly into the attachment slots on your 45mm Series 8.
How do I change the strap on my smartwatch?
It’s a quick and completely tool-free change. On the underside of the watch, you’ll find two small buttons right next to the strap attachments. Press one button at a time, gently slide the old strap out sideways, and then slide your new strap in until you hear and feel it click into place with a secure grip.
How do I clean the strap to remove sweat and dirt?
The cleaning method depends entirely on the material you have chosen. Silicone and sports straps are best rinsed under lukewarm water with a little mild soap immediately after exercise. Woven nylon straps can be gently hand-washed and left to air-dry. Leather straps, however, should never be soaked in water; instead, wipe them down with a slightly damp microfibre cloth and apply leather balm as needed to preserve their suppleness and finish.
Are all straps water-resistant?
No. Although the watch itself is designed for water activities, this does not apply to all materials used in the straps. Rubber, silicone and nylon are excellent, durable choices for sweaty workouts and swimming. Leather and metal, however, should be kept away from moisture to prevent wear, stains, rust and premature deterioration of the material.
